My Exquisite Corpse’ is an interactive exhibition opening at BIASA ArtSpace on May 20th, showcasing acollection of extraordinary ‘body parts’ created by 13 international and local visual artists.
Artists participating include Alexandra Carovna, Bayu Widodo, Citra Kemala, Davina Stephens, IwanSastrawan, Made Bayak, Made Wiguna Valasara, Nadira Julia, Natisa Jones, Prabu Perdana, Resatio AdiPutra, Spencer Hansen, Wayan Suja.
Based on a surrealist technique where artists are assigned to create separate forms, the finished pieces are displayed to be taken and re-arranged. Visitors are encouraged to create their own corpse from the final body of work.
Curated by Naomi Samara, the exhibition is an adaptation of a group show titled Exquisite Corpses held earlier in the year. ‘My Exquisite Corpse’ aims to assess individual relationships rather than the public exchange between artwork and the audience.
The set dimensions of the artwork mimics a life-size form, encouraging a more personal interaction. Random combinations created by visitors are assembled in a private space within the gallery and will be visually documented.
Each audience is utilized as a final step to creating an ‘exquisite corpse’ and producing an artwork that possesses a random yet powerful collective identity.
