BIASA at Jakarta Fashion Week 2025
Jakarta, October 27, 2024 – BIASA celebrates 30 years with an exclusive presentation of the ‘Rhapsody’ collection at Jakarta Fashion Week 2025.
Founded by designer and art gallerist Susanna Perini in 1994, BIASA’s unique combination of artistic vision, craftsmanship, and cultural connections has seen it thrive over the years. Fusing local artisanship with Italian minimalism and a modern edge, the brand has created a unique style that appeals to both local and international audiences. BIASA’s dedication to ‘slow fashion’ has been crucial in its journey, an ethos that has seen the brand grow with a strong presence through its many boutiques and art galleries in Bali and Jakarta and a large international following.
The ‘Rhapsody’ collection encompasses BIASA Founder and Creative Director Susanna Perini’s vision behind the brand; “a one-movement work that is episodic yet integrated, free-flowing in structure, featuring a range of highly contrasted moods, colors and tonality; free in form with an air of spontaneous inspiration and a sense of improvisation.” Reflecting this musical and poetic essence, BIASA’s ‘Rhapsody’ unfolds through three interconnected stories: Harmony, Nature, and ‘Sangha’ (community). Each narrative is beautifully and intricately woven together to present a collection that highlights the brand’s core values and is true to BIASA’s philosophy, legacy, and signature style of ‘Extraordinary Simplicity’.

Harmony
‘Saput Poleng’, a sacred chequered motif that symbolizes the philosophy of mutual dualism: light and dark, joy and sorrow, good and evil. Presented in black and white and representative of the history of BIASA, these contrasting colors are a symbol of balance and harmony.
Distinguished by its focus on handmade artistry, each collection piece features intricate handwork, from embroidery and appliqué to artisanal macramé and hand-sewn finishes. BIASA signature archive styles are teamed with a distinct element of newness and homage to the past being brought to life; voluminous layered and multi-functional underskirts serve as an additional accessory to transform much-loved resort-wear attire into glamorous evening sensations. Created with layers of transparency and netting in cotton organdie, linen, and chiffon, these silhouettes are romantic, seductive, and edgy.
Bustiers from hand-stitched ribbons are teamed with patterned and polka-dot printed skirts, pants, and sarongs. Cotton organdie dresses with layered underskirts are embellished with hand-cut and hand-stitched linen coins. Netted dresses and tops made from handmade ribbons and handwoven macramé-fringed bralettes and skirts are grouped with linen tops and skirts. Signature kaftans with appliqué detailing are paired with ribbon fisherman sandals. Accessories include chunky resin bead necklaces and bangles and contrasting monochrome and origami bags.

Nature
The inherent character, qualities, and symbolism of nature interpreted through hues of indigo. From the innate human desire to learn and grow, to the beauty and comfort of our natural environment, these pieces celebrate BIASA’s commitment to slow fashion and environmentally friendly practices as key part of its vision and philosophy.
Using natural dyes and materials, a chic and comfortable oversized silhouette of dip-dyed indigo and white sleeveless tops, shirts, loose trousers, and skirts are presented in cotton, linen, and silk. Free-flowing asymmetrical, creatively cut kaftans and dresses in deep indigo are accessorized with large wooden bangles, chain necklaces, and indigo-patterned fisherman sandals.
Cotton and silk scarves, sarongs and over-shirts are embellished with hand-stitched lines and embroidered polka dots, teamed with large, oversized bucket bags in denim and tobacco leather.

‘Sangha’
‘Sangha’, the Sanskrit word for ‘community’ and key Buddhist teaching. Drawing inspiration from the philosophy of the practice, BIASA’s ‘Sangha’ represents the beauty of a community dedicated to upholding the same values of awareness, understanding, acceptance, love, and harmony.
A grounded hue of deep earthy colors is seen in oversized, layered silhouettes; from Indian red to hues of orange; marigold, tangerine, and tango, and natural colors of the earth in sabia (sand) and tanah
(brown). Oversized kaftans, shirts, and overcoats are teamed with large balloon-shaped trousers. Voluminous dresses with large skirts show a free-flowing and effortless look. Accessories include feminine sandals with fabric marigold details, suede multi-colored ballerinas, and wooden bangles and necklaces.
In all, ‘Rhapsody’ is a truly unique collection that reflects on BIASA’s past, present, and future as it celebrates its 30th anniversary. It honors BIASA’s journey over the years while staying true to its philosophy and vision.

Susanna Perini, Founder and Creative Director of BIASA, shared her thoughts on the ‘Rhapsody’ collection and its presentation at Jakarta Fashion Week 2025. She expressed that “the maturity in the
collection is effortless; conceptually it’s simple, yet the intricate handwork, vaporous fabrics, and artisanal characteristics are truly representative of BIASA. I am thrilled to see our plans come to fruition as we showcase ‘Rhapsody’ at Jakarta Fashion Week on this special occasion. The collection is a tribute to this vibrant, ever-changing city and the amazing spirit of the community we are connected to here.”
The ‘Rhapsody’ collection will be available online and in stores in Jakarta and Bali starting in February and March 2025.
