BIASA X STUDIO SEJAUH PRESENTS ‘MATA SAWAH’

This special collection brings together two brands shaped by the same foundation: design that honours the land, the hands, and the process behind every piece.

For more than 30 years, BIASA has worked with artisans across Indonesia, creating clothing with natural fabrics, timeless forms, and intricate handcrafted details. Studio Sejauh, a new collaborative platform under Sejauh Mata Memandang, continues this mission by building ethical supply chains, embracing circular systems, and empowering local communities.

Together we present Mata Sawah. The collection features exclusive hand-batiked cottons, recycled jacquards, and traditional woven textiles developed with artisans across Java. A Nitik batik motif, created especially for BIASA, is dyed using plant-based indigo from Temanggung and completed by batik makers in Tuban. This is paired with handweaving by artisans in Pekalongan, and complemented by Sejauh’s Muara jacquard, made from one hundred percent recycled cotton yarns.

Each fabric tells a story. Motifs like Ombak, Bija, Ayam, and Bambu are crafted using time-honoured techniques such as batik cap, hand screen-printing, and jacquard weaving. These textiles are then shaped into BIASA’s signature silhouettes—oversized shirts, kimono jackets, Hakama trousers, sarongs, and sculptural separates—finished with hand-stitching, ribbon appliqué, and embroidery.

Mata Sawah reflects the simplicity of the rice field, yet holds complexity in its making. Every piece is rooted in collaboration, shaped by heritage, and brought to life through hands that honour the beauty of process.

A percentage of proceeds from this collection goes directly to support artisans in the villages.
